Privacy Notice

Casio Computer Co., Ltd., a Japanese company whose registered office is at 6-2, Hon-machi 1 chome, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo 151-8543, Japan (hereinafter "Casio", " we", "our" or "us") takes the protection of your personal data extremely seriously. This Privacy Notice ("Privacy Notice") describes how Casio processes and protects your personal data collected, used and disclosed when you use our services provided through the website of "Casio Teacher Members"("Services") in accordance with requirements of the Personal Data Protection Act 2012 of Singapore ("PDPA") and the applicable personal data protection laws and regulations. As used in this Privacy Notice, "Personal Data" means any data, whether true or not, about an individual who can be identified from that data, or from that data and other information to which we have or are likely to have access, including data in our records as may be updated form time to time.

This Privacy Notice exclusively applies to the processing of your Personal Data when using this Services. This Privacy Notice shall not apply to using the CASIO ID ("CASIO ID"), an account assigned by Casio for users to centrally store and manage master data and which can be used as an individual access to Casio’s various services or other application keys, solely and/or other apps Casio provides. Those services are governed by other privacy policy, so when using CASIO ID with this Services, the privacy statement for CASIO ID applies to you additionally.

The PDPA establishes a general data protection law in Singapore which governs an organisation’s activities relating to the collection, use, process and disclosure of individuals’ personal data (as defined in the PDPA). The administration and enforcement of the PDPA is handled by the Personal Data Protection Commission ("PDPC"), a Singapore Government statutory body established under the authority of the PDPA. The other roles of PDPC include undertaking public education and engagement programmes to help organisations understand and comply with the PDPA as well as to promote greater awareness of the importance of personal data protection in Singapore. Its website address is www.pdpc.gov.sg. Other terms used in this Privacy Notice shall have the meanings given to them in the PDPA (where the context so permits).

Please read the following carefully to understand how we will treat your Personal Data provided via your use of the Services.

1. How We Collect Personal Data

1.1 We would only collect, use and disclose your Personal Data that (i) you (or your authorized representative) have provided written consent to the collection and usage of your Personal Data for the purposes set out in Section 2, or (ii) collection and use of Personal Data without consent is permitted or required by the PDPA or other applicable laws.

1.2 The Personal Data may be furnished to us in forms filled out by you, email messages or telephone conversations. We may also keep a record or any contact you have with us. The Personal Data would be collected only for the purposes stated in Section 2.

1.3 We may collect Personal Data from you in various ways including the following:

  • (i)CASIO ID Data
    These Services requires you to register and sign up for CASIO ID account before you can use the Services. You provide us with Personal Data including, your name, birth date, gender, email address, country registered with you CASIO ID.
  • (ii)Profile Data
    We collect and use your profile data registered by yourself with the Services, including school name, school type (public or private) and subject in charge.
  • (iii)Device Data
    When you access or use the Services, we collect and use information about your device to which the Services are accessed (collectively, "Devices") including device identifier, model name, OS version.
  • (iv)Setting Data
    When you access or use the Services, we collect and use your setting data of your Devices, such as date and time of usage and access to our Services, consent status about privacy, access to media storage of your Devices and subscription status of our newsletter service.

1.4 Automated technologies or interactions
As you use the Services with interaction of our website, we also automatically collect information by using the cookies during your use of the Services, specifically: your IP-address, host name, user agent, browser identification, referrer, and the date/time of your access to the website of the Services by using cookies, server logs, and other similar technologies. For more details about cookies, please see our Cookie Policy. The Cookie Policy shall consistitute an integral part to this Privacy Notice.

1.5 We may collect, disclose or use your Personal Data without your consent pursuant to an exception under the PDPA or any other written law such as during the following situations:

  • (i)To respond to an emergency that threatens your life, health and safety or of another individual; and
  • (ii)Necessary in the national interest, for any investigation or proceedings.
2. Legal basis for and purpose of collect, use and disclose

2.1 We will process your Personal Data based on any of the following legal basis (unless such data processing will conflict with applicable laws and regulations) or any other grounds as permitted under applicable laws;

  • (i)Contract. When we need to process your Personal Data to perform a contract we enter into with you;
  • (ii)Legal Obligation. When we need to comply with a legal obligation;
  • (iii)Legitimate Interests. When the processing of your Personal Data is necessary for the fulfilment of legitimate interests pursued by us or a third party and your interests and fundamental rights do not override those interests; and
  • (iv)Consent. When you have given consent for us to process your Personal Data. However, even if we did not obtain consent from you, we may process your Personal Data based on other applicable legal grounds. The withdrawal of your consent shall not affect the lawfulness of processing performed based on the consent before your withdrawal.

2.2 We use your Personal Data for the following purposes ("Purposes"):

  • (i)to verify your identity to make available the Services with your CASIO ID;
  • (ii)to perform providing the Services you request or contract with you including the customer support services;
  • (iii)to personalize and optimize the Services for you and to enhance the user experience of the Services;
  • (iv)to analysis your usage and actions of the Services and the Services for statistical, marketing, profiling or other purposes for us to review, develop and improve the quality of and to promote sales of our products and services (including the Services);
  • (v)to (a) send questionnaires to you by Casio or its affiliates for design and improve our products or services (including the Services) customized to interests of consumers, and (b) as permitted by applicable law, send you information and advertisement (via targeted advertising and direct messages) by Casio, its affiliates or its local distributors about our products and services (including the Services which you have not yet used) and benefits (including special events, promotions and campaigns held by Casio, its affiliates or its local distributors) which might be of interest to you; and
  • (vi)to contact you concerning your queries, or for any security and fraud prevention purposes.

2.3 During the period you use the Services, your Personal Data may be processed and used in the form(s) of printed documents and/or electronic files or otherwise by us and the parties prescribed in Section 6 and 7.

3. Management of your Personal Data

3.1 We have taken steps to protect your Personal Data in an appropriate manner. We collect, use and disclose (including cross-border transfer) the Personal Data to the extent permitted or required under the PDPA and applicable laws and guidelines. In addition to this Privacy Notice, we follow our "Privacy Policy".

3.2 Safeguarding and respecting the confidentiality of your Personal Data is important to Casio. We will use our best efforts to protect your Personal Data to prevent unauthorised access, collection, use, disclosure, copying, modification, disposal or similar risks.

3.3 Your Personal Data provided to us is stored on secure servers which are password protected where applicable, and can only be accessed by authorised employees. Casio also has security measures in place to protect against unauthorized access, collection, use, disclosure, copying, modification, disposal or similar risks of your Personal Data under our possession or control. However, please note that, to the fullest extent permitted by the applicable laws, we will not be held liable or responsible for any loss, misuse or alteration of your Personal Data that may be caused by third parties.

4. Storage Location

The Personal Data is transmitted to and stored in a server operated by us and our service providers, which server may be located outside of your country.

5. Cookies

This website uses cookies. A "cookie" is used to provide services to the customer and identifies the computer being used by the users; however it cannot be used to identify the actual customer unless the customer inputs personal data on our websites. Information about you obtained through a "cookie" is used for the purpose of making our Services more convenient for users of the Services. You may disable "cookie" in browser; however this may restrict the use of the Services provided by Casio. 6. Data sharing

6.1 In accordance with applicable data protection laws, including Japanese law in connection with the framework of joint use, we share your Personal Data with our affiliate companies in your country or region. The categories of Personal Data that is shared are your name, email address, school name, school type and subject in charge. The purposes of sharing are the same as the Purposes stated in (iv) and (v) of Section 2 hereof. Each entity is responsible for the management of your Personal Data which it collects from you.

6.2 We may disclose your Personal Data to any judicial or governmental authorities, courts, external advisors, and similar third parties, if so requested by them, in accordance with any applicable laws, rules or regulations.

7. Data Intermediaries

7.1 We may make use of third-party vendors to process your Personal Data on our behalf ("Data Intermediary(ies) ").
Data Intermediaries may include our subsidiaries, distributors, service partners, service providers and subcontractors as necessary to process for accomplishment of the Purposes. "Processing" has a broad scope under the PDPA and means the carrying out of any operations or set of operations in relation to personal data, including, amongst others, (i) recording, (ii) holding, (iii) organization, adaptation or alteration, (iv) retrieval, (v) combination, (vi) transmission, and (vii) erasure or destruction.

7.2 You acknowledge and consent that we may make use of such Data Intermediaries to process your Personal Data for the Purposes set out in Section 2 or for any other purposes lawfully permitted under the PDPA and/or the applicable laws.

8. Cross-border transfers

In the event that we transfer your Personal Data overseas, we will ensure that our affiliates, subsidiaries, distributors, service providers and subcontractors above are located outside the country where you live will provide a standard of protection to your Personal Data so transferred that is comparable to the protection in accordance with the PDPA. In relation to your Personal Data which we may transfer to us in Japan from time to time, we have taken appropriate steps to ensure that such recipients are bound by legally enforceable obligations to provide such comparable standard of protection to the PDPA.

9. Non-mandatory

You are NOT obligated in any way to provide your information to us. However, if your Personal Data necessary for the Services is not provided to us, you may not receive the Services in whole or in part.

10. Third Party Services

Our Services may contain links to other services, websites and resources that are operated or provided by third parties with different privacy practices. We have no control over and do not take any responsibility for these third party services and websites, and their Personal Data handling practices. You are encouraged to review the personal data policies of the services and websites you choose to visit which are linked from our Services.

11. Accuracy and Updating of Your Personal Data

11.1 We will strive to keep your Personal Data provided to us accurate.

11.2 You should ensure that all your Personal Data submitted to us is complete, accurate, true and correct. Your failure to do so may result in our inability to provide you with, or delay in our provision of, the products or services requested.

11.3 Further, when you provide us with any personal data relating to a third party (including your spouse, children, parents and/or employees), you represent to us that you have obtained the consent of the third-party for our collection, use, process and disclosure of their personal data in accordance with the Privacy Notice unless otherwise provided in the PDPA.

11.4 You may request us to correct any error or omission in your Personal Data that we have in our possession or under our control. If your Personal Data relating to you which you are unable to correct or update but which you wish to do so, you may contact us and/or our Data Protection Officer ("DPO"). Our contact details are set out in Section 16 .

11.5 We will respond to your above requests as soon as reasonably possible. Should we not be able to respond to your request within thirty (30) days after receiving your request in writing (including both electronic and non-electronic methods), we will inform you in writing within thirty (30) days of the time by which we will be able to respond to your request. If we are unable to provide you with any Personal Data or to make a correction requested by you, we shall generally inform you of the reasons why we are unable to do so (except where we are not required to do so under the PDPA).

12. Access to Your Personal Data and Respecting your Consent

12.1 If you wish to access your Personal Data that we have relating to you, inquire about the way in which your Personal Data relating to you has been used, processed or disclosed by us in the past year, or wish to withdraw your consent to our process of your Personal Data, you may contact us and/or our DPO (our contact details are set out in Section 16). We will seek to attend to your request as best as we reasonably can. Please note that:

  • (i)in order for us to provide any Personal Data we will need to verify your identity and may request further information about your request;
  • (ii)we may refuse access to your Personal Data if it would affect the privacy rights of other persons or if it breaches any confidentiality that attaches to that information;
  • (iii)we may also refuse your request where we are legally permitted to do so and give you such reasons;
  • (iv)you should be aware that we may take a reasonable time to process your application for access as we may need to retrieve information from storage and review the information in order to determine what information may be provided;
  • (v)please also note that if you withdraw your consent to our process and/or disclosure of your Personal Data, we may not be in a position to continue providing our services to you or perform on any contract we have with you; and
  • (vi)we may have to charge you a reasonable administrative fee for retrieving your Personal Data.

12.2 In general, we shall seek to process your request within ten (10) business days of receiving. Should we require more time to give effect to a withdrawal notice, we will inform you of the time frame by which the withdrawal of consent will take effect.

13. Disclosure of Personal Data policy and procedure of making a complaint

13.1 If you have believe that we have breached this Privacy Notice, or any other applicable privacy or data protection laws or regulations which may apply to Casio (including but not limited to the Privacy Notice), then you should make a complaint to Casio in the first instance. You should address your complaint in writing to us and/or our DPO (our contact details are set out in Section 16), and you should include as much detail as you can about your Personal Data affected, and the circumstances that you believe amount to a breach of this Privacy Notice or the applicable privacy or data protection law or regulation.

13.2 If you have any questions about this Privacy Notice or concerns about our commitment to your privacy, you may email or write to us and/or our DPO (our contact details are set out in Section 16).

13.3 In the event a breach of security leading to accidental or unlawful destruction, loss, alteration, unauthorized disclosure of, or access to, Personal Data, we shall promptly assess the impact and if appropriate, report this breach to the PDPC in accordance with the PDPA. We will notify you when the data breach is likely to result in significant harm to you after our notification to PDPC. We may also notify other relevant regulatory agencies, where required. If we are a Data Intermediary processing the Personal Data for or on behalf of the other organisation, we shall inform the organisation immediately of any data breach so the organisation can promptly assess the impact and comply with their legal obligation in connection with such data breach.

14. Retention period

14.1 Your Personal Data will be retained only for as long as necessary for accomplishment of the Purposes, or as allowed by law.

14.2 In the case where we receive unsolicited Personal Data via email or any other communication channels, the unsolicited Personal Data will not be retained and will be securely disposed of immediately.

15. Changes to this Privacy Notice

We reserve the right to modify and/or update this Privacy Notice at any time to ensure it is consistent with industry trends and/or any changes in legal or regulatory requirements (whether under the PDPA or otherwise). Subject to any rights you may have at law, you agree to be bound by the prevailing terms of the Privacy Notice as may be modified and/or updated by Casio from time to time.
